BM5's November 2022 Favorites

Favorite Music Discussion
The Music that Defined the 1990s - Mic the Snare

I've always enjoyed the deep dives from this channel, whether it be the monthly recaps of new releases, discography breakdowns, and like this case, decade analyses. Being a 90's baby, I was instantly intrigued to see the title pop up on my subscription feed. I have to say, I think he made some really good choices on the songs that embody the decade along with some honorable mentions. It would also be fair enough to say there were some snubs, but you give it a watch and tell you opinion.

Favorite Single
Draw (My Life) - ICHILLIN'

This young group always finds a way to endear me. If you've seen my initial reaction video, you would know that I took a minute to figure out exactly the vibe it was going for. Yet as soon as I caught on, ICHILLIN' once again said "GOTYA!" The minimalist and percussive production with the exuberant gang vocals throughout made me want to join in the fun. You wouldn't suspect that there was a member change, since this song makes it as if they haven't missed a beat. I hope they can continue to create more wonderful tunes to earworm their way into my heart!

Favorite B-Side
Impurities - Le Sserafim

It was mentioned before, but I'll say it again: I'm a 90's baby! I grew up around 90's, early 00's R&B and I can tell when I hear any track with that vibe, it will instantly wreck me. That's exactly what happened when this song came on the Antifragile EP. I soon looked into the producers of the track and saw two important names: Obi Klein and Charli Taft, quite the dynamic duo that keep this sound thriving in their own music and in kpop. The vocals of each of the members executed the style tremendously, especially Yunjin, Chaewon, and surprisingly Kazuha. Though the song wasn't all that HYBE said they're giving; they said here's a spectacularly shot choreography video that can rival some regular music videos in technical execution from the blocking, shot composition, lighting, and more. Source Music knew what they had with this song and had to treat it as the gem it truly is!
