BM5's March 2024 Favorites

Favorite Rap Battle
Jaz the Rapper vs Bizzo Bond

Alright, let me explain. I know this is slightly out of the realm of what I usually share, but hear me out. Last year, one thing that brought me back to writing music again has been battle rap. The creativity of the lyrics, the performances, and the crowd reactions. Jaz became one of my favorites to watch and this battle is a show of why. Her style is something that parallels my own and inspires me. Bizzo Bond in this match also brought some wit to his rounds. Therefore, seeing this match was quite a treat and I figured I needed to share the hip hop culture with you all. As it is international!

Favorite Performance
Justin Timberlake - Tiny Desk

Tiny Desk never fails to bring some of the greatest talents to their office. This here was certainly no exception. In fact, this is probably one of the most crowded performances of late with all of the musicians. With a full band in tow, Justin proved why he was once called the prince of pop. He did a fantastic job playing hits from old to new. It's not one to miss, so here I recommend it.

Favorite Comeback
XXL EP - Young Posse

Have you ever heard a song that grew on you quicker than expected? Well, I have many times and this is evidence of that. This group and their hip hop focus has been such a fun experience. I still don't find the title track as catchy as Macaroni Cheese, but it does still hold a space in my mind's ear. The old school rap approach is so neat to see come back and they continue to explore the many sides of hip hop over the years within this release. As they keep growing as artists, I'm watching with great anticipation, especially since they strive to write their own lyrics more and more with decent success. May Young Posse rise past the skyline!
