Quick Movie Review

Due Date (2010, USA) | Rating: 4/5

It's probably surprising that I didn't expect much from this movie, but I found it hilarious throughout the whole movie. It's very light-hearted and has a bit of a generic ending, but you kinda forget that after watching all this terrible stuff happen between these two characters. According to my mom upon explaining everything that happened, she mentioned an older movie by the name of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I might actually check that out. Anyway, if you want a good laugh, this is the perfect movie for you.

Shutter Island (2010, USA) | Rating: 2.5/5

Originally, I wanted to see this last year in theaters, but I failed and never made it. So, I picked it up from work and it took me about 3 days to watch it in pieces due to my bad timing in wanting to watch it at 2 am (and having to work the next day). I've heard mostly good things about it and actually saw a review where the blogger disliked the movie, but loved Inception. So, my opinion is mostly based on how I felt about both movies. Honestly, I enjoyed Inception more. Although, I admit the storyline of the movie was interesting, the execution was alright, and the visuals were pretty stunning with the lighting and color palette. I think the length of the movie, the dialogue, and my "sharp" mind for guessing the end kinda made it a bit bland. But I was determined to finish it, find out the ending, and gather my thoughts. It's not a completely terrible movie, but it's full of dialogue and slightly slow pace.

Sucker Punch (2011, USA) | Rating: 4/5

If you haven't been paying attention to all the movies I watch in a year, then you probably didn't notice that I haven't been to the movie theater since last year when Warrior's Way was released. Quite sad, right? Anyway, this was a great movie to get back into the theaters with. The visuals are stunning, even if some people are sick of the whole slow motion pieces. [Hey! I'm sick of 3D movies~ Get over it.] The storyline is pretty simple and the execution is very unique and enjoyable. The ending was very...nice. A little positive message to send you home with. Must add that I love the soundtrack as well.

Easy A (2010, USA) | Rating: 3/5

Someone told me they didn't like this movie that much due to the ending, but I took this movie very lightly like Due Date. Certain movies I analyze more thoroughly than others and this is one that I just sat back and enjoyed. I thought it was pretty amusing and a typical tween/teen movie like Mean Girls, Stick It, or Bring It On. The characters are generic, but still entertaining and the light-hearted message holds true with rumors and being that anonymous student.

Due Date was a really funny movie, and your comment from your mum about Trains, Planes and Automobiles made me laugh (more on that here: http://www.deepfocusfilmstudies.com/due-date-in-focus.html ). Really wish they would make another one.
